FACING ALI on CBC DOCUMENTARY

This, my friends, is the perhaps latest possible tip off for an upcoming event. FACING ALI is on TV, well, tonight. I just heard. But anyway: Tonight! at 9 PT on CBC Doucmentary, so only in Canada, and you have to be a subscriber to the channel—so, yes, a few limitations. Nonetheless, it’s on here, in about five minutes. Okay, one hour and seven minutes. You can also rent it now, at your local video store, if you’re too late here.

Hope all is well,

Pete

Facing Ali — The best documentary I have seen this year, most certainly. For all of us who watched those epic televised fights, and who believed they could sense something about the boxers’ true personalities, even through their posturing and their ‘game’, this is your chance to see them as movingly vulnerable humans. Few have ever plumbed the humble and self-sacrificial side of boxers, prefering rather to recount their splashy trash talk and dramatics. But in this film, their touching, candid anecdotes & recollections are pieced together into a seamless narrative — obviously drawn out of them by a richly informed, intelligent and sensitive interviewer. Facing Ali will surely stand as the definitive historical documentation of boxing’s finest era, where one spectacularly talented and charismatic man affected his entire world.

I first was interested in Mr. Ali when I travelled to NZ and a friend and I sat in a Resort for three days straight while it rained outside. He inspired me then to write the greatest story I have ever written and ever since, that man has been a light in my life. To see this doco showing his peers speaking candidly about this fellah is quite honourable.

Can you tell me if it’s available for purchase?

  4. Hi Terri. Yes it is, both at or on Amazon and some Blockbusters and even a few of the little stores around. Good luck!
