STEPHEN COLBERT on IMMIGRANT FARM WORKERS, and their brutal treatment

“I don’t want a tomato picked by a Mexican — I want it picked by an American, then sliced by a Guatemalan, and served by a Venezuelan in a spa where a Chilean gives me a Brazilian.”
—Stephen Colbert

Hilarious Stephen Colbert testimony before Congress. Painful, too, because it points out so much that is disastrous.

My physiotherapist (well, not mine, but the one I sometimes visit) said, with my back, he would not recommend gardening. The fruit/vegetable picking jobs, ten hour days, 6 and 7 day weeks, away from family et cetera, would tear me to shreds. I try to remember this. What remembering does, I don’t know, but, man…

I’ve written a fair bit about this, here and here (Mexican migrant workers in Canada and the film El Contrato) and here, for example. And an interesting piece on Cesar Chavez.

Lots of love, and eat your vegetables, and grow as much as you can yourself, and love more, and don’t feel threatend by threats that aren’t real,

Pete
