DANIELLE LAPORTE: FREER THAN WE THINK WE ARE

Your passion is your qualification. It’s your leading qualification.
—Danielle LaPorte

My brilliant, super-talented friend Danielle LaPorte wrote an online book called the Fire Starter Sessions—to light a fire in that passion of yours. As I’ve been lately trying to understand social networking as it pertains to what I do, or am, or am not, I have been taking her sage advice. This little gem, on page 12 of her book, I think is useful on countless levels and around countless situations to almost everyone:

I was looking to Lance, my investor and mentor, to give me some straight up, sage advice. My company was being torn apart by a clash of wills and motives. It was wretched. Everything was on the line. Hundreds of thousands of dollars, five years of full tilt labour and love, long-term relationships, reputation—a very big dream. I had a lawyer (two of them). I had a business coach. I had a Buddhist shrink. What I needed was a friend with hardcore business acumen—someone who knew the ropes, and who knew me.

I had that deep, desperate crease of “What should I do?” on my face. I was pushing hard for answers, somersaulting over Scenario A or B or…Z. Lance made it clear, with his eyes twinkling. He said:

“You‘re freer than you think you are.”

I love that advice. How many times have we felt utterly trapped, and some months or years later unable to even remember what was actually trapping us—be it in business, relationship, spirituality? You name it.

“You‘re freer than you think you are.”

Love it. Danielle, whose site is White Hot Truth, is a real gem-spirit, with a great fire and passion inside, and she’s pouring it out to the world.

Here’s to being freer than you thought you were, in every second, every breath.

    Nice reminder right there. Thanks.
